This month’s update brings back a few of the classic GT legends including the Honda NSX GT500 and the Nissan Skyline GTS-R ‘87.

Update 1.48* for Gran Turismo 7 will be available as of Wednesday, May 29 at 11:00pm PST / May 30 at 7:00am BST / 3:00pm JST.

Gran Turismo 7 update 1.48 features 5 new cars, Café Menu, and World Circuit Events

5 new cars added this month

Honda Civic SiR・II (EG) ’93
(Can be purchased from Used Cars)

The top-grade 5th generation Civic balances speed with comfort.

The Civic, now equipped with a VTEC engine and much faster, passed the baton to the 5th generation model in September of 1991. The body was available in a 3-door hatchback, the newly christened “Ferio” 4-door saloon, and the 5-door shuttle. The car’s tagline called it the “Sports Civic”. Engine variety increased due to the further development of the VTEC system. The base models were equipped with the carbureted 1.3 L and 1.5 L, on top of these were the easy to drive 1.5 L SOHC VTEC and the more fuel efficient 1.5 L VTEC-E.

The top of the line was crowned with SiR model, which featured the high performance 1.6 L DOHC VTEC. All cars used Honda’s new standard double wishbone suspension. The SiR model, which served as the face of the “Sports Civic” boasted 9.9 BHP more power than the previous generation, achieving 167.7 BHP. Also for the suspension, the spring rate, amount of suspension stroke, etc. were revised, and were set to be more sports oriented. As with previous models, the SiR aimed for lower weight through simplified equipment, while the SiR・II featured a full suite of comfort amenities such as automatic air conditioning, power windows, and a genuine leather wrapped steering wheel.

Honda NSX GT500 ’00
(Can be purchased from Legend Cars)

A new design with a lower centre of gravity was the key to victory for this JGTC champion.

During the 2000 All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC), the three big automakers Honda, Toyota and Nissan engaged in an unprecedented war for the GT500-class title. The NSX development team decided on major changes to the 2000 model even going so far as repositioning the transverse mounted engine. Mounting a V-type engine in a transverse layout helps to shorten the length of the vehicle, but the layout creates problems in routing the exhaust pipes coming from the two-cylinder banks. Previously, the NSX’s exhaust pipes had ran under the engine, but the development team decided to re-route them to the sides and lower the engine itself. However, in this configuration the gearbox, which was mounted on the side of the engine, would be in the way. To make space for the exhaust pipes, the team set about redesigning a smaller gearbox. The result was a completely bespoke transmission that employed formula car gears, which are thinner and more compact than regular gears.

Five NSX teams were entered for the 2000 season. Among them, the Castrol Mugen NSX team, along with Takata Dome NSX, took on the role of advanced-development “works cars” inside the NSX camp. The Takata Dome NSX showed overwhelming performance, taking win. However, the unique weight handicaps in the JGTC rules resulted in the team missing out on the championship title. In its shadow emerged the Castrol Mugen NSX, putting in one solid run after another. It was driven by Ryo Michigami and Osamu Nakako, with Nakako being replaced by Hidetoshi Mitsusada halfway through the season. The Castrol Mugen NSX team were able to deftly handle the weight handicaps incurred from its 1st place finishes and went on to glory as the series champion.

Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31) ’87
(Can be purchased from Used Cars)

An unlikely monster machine born from the elegant lines of the 7th gen. Skyline.

Though it still retained the same sporty appeal of the previous generation R30 model, the 7th generation R31 Skyline marked a change of direction for the line when it was released in August 1985. In the Japanese car scene of the time, there was a growing trend in both the sales and general popularity of luxury outfitted ‘high-society cars’, typically either 4 or 2-door models. In response to this cultural boom, the Skyline was repositioned as a luxury saloon. At its debut, the new model featured a somewhat understated line-up, featuring a 4-door hardtop, a sedan and an estate. Fans would have to wait until May 1986 for the anticipated 2-door coupé.

The real attraction of the 7th generation would show up much later still though. This was the GTS-R, released in August 1987 in a limited run of only 800 cars. The GTS-R was developed to reclaim the Group A racing title and was a very sporty model. The powerplant was based on the turbocharged RB20DET DOHC inline-6 featured in the GTS, which generated 177.5 BHP and 23.0 kgfm of torque. The GTS-R version added a stainless-steel exhaust manifold and a T04E turbocharger, achieving 207.1 BHP and 25.0 kgfm torque. This was a very special engine, earning itself the designation RB20DET-R.

The suspension and exterior were also modified. While the normal GTS-X had an automatic front spoiler that deployed according to vehicle speed, the GTS-R instead used a fixed spoiler, with the rear spoiler also being upgraded to a larger unit. In addition, the car was offered in an exclusive ‘Blue Black’ body colour.

Volvo 240 SE Estate ’93
(Can be purchased from Used Cars)

A historic model which taught the world to love the station wagon.

When people think of Volvo, they think estate cars. And when they think estate cars, they think Volvo. Such was the automobile scene for quite some time until the worldwide SUV boom began gaining momentum in the late 1980’s. One car that cemented this maxim was the 240 Estate.

The 240 series itself had debuted in 1974, made up of the ‘244’ 4-door sedan, ‘242’ 2-door, and ‘245’ 5-door wagon. The 3rd digit of the model number denoted the number of doors. It wasn’t until 1983 that all these models were consolidated into a single ‘240’ model. Additionally, when the car originally debuted it featured round headlights, the iconic square lamps were introduced later in 1979. The 240 retained most of its original styling throughout its production until 1993, though its safety features were kept constantly up to date with additions like airbags and ABS as standard equipment. Even in an era where sedans ruled sales figures, over one third of total production was made up of wagon models, proving just how popular the Estate was in the 240 line-up.One of the most notable features of the 240 Estate was its styling, which appeared square no matter what angle the car was observed from. It features a long front overhang to incorporate crumble zones, and on the rear as well a long overhang facilitates both impact absorption and extra luggage space. This resulted in the car’s characteristically long thin silhouette.

Volvo V40 T5 R-Design ’13
*Can be purchased from Brand Central

The globally successful Volvo that serves as a saloon, estate, and coupe.

The V40 was revealed at the 2012 Geneva show as a C-segment 5-door hatchback. Though it was positioned as Volvo’s entry-level model, the V40 would actually play a huge role in the Volvo catalogue as it served as the combined replacement for 3 different models: the conventional S40 saloon, the V50 family estate, and the sporty C30 3-door hatchback. To create a car that could provide the comfort of a saloon, the utility of an estate and the youthful, sporty styling of a coupe, the car was developed completely from scratch. While the base structure utilized a platform in common with Ford cars, the styling is innovative and has no trace of Volvo’s conservative image of the past. Incorporating design cues from the classic P1800 of the 60’s and its later 1800ES variant, the car has flowing lines and a soulful silhouette that can be interpreted as a coupe or an estate. The car was an immediate hit from its debut, attracting worldwide attention for both its aesthetics and utility, able to comfortably seat 4 adults along with all their luggage. The T5 R-Design is the sportiest model of the series. Its 210.1 BHP 2L inline-5 turbocharged engine provides quick acceleration performance, and its sports suspension and 18-inch wheels provide both sharp handling and a smooth ride. The special front bumper and rear diffuser provide additional aerodynamic performance, as well as giving it a bold look.

Now more than ever, technology is developing in ways that creates endless possibilities. This month’s GT updates features a glimpse of what the future would hold through two vehicles, the coveted ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo and AFEELA Prototype 2024 .

Update 1.46* for Gran Turismo 7 will be available as of Wednesday, April 24 at 11:00pm PST / April 25 at 7:00am BST / 3:00pm JST.

New Gran Turismo 7 update features an all-electric concept racing car created exclusively for the game

Three new cars added this month

ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo

A single-seater all-wheel drive EV from the distinguished Czech manufacturer.

Drawing on the rich heritage of Škoda Motorsport, the Škoda Design Team has created a visionary study of a single-seater, all-electric racing concept car: the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo. Created exclusively for Gran Turismo, this concept represents Škoda’s first inclusion in the Gran Turismo series. Inspired by the Škoda 1100 OHC Spyder racing car from 1957, a vehicle originally developed for the prestigious 24-hour Le Mans race, the Vision Gran Turismo is a modern tribute to this legendary racing car and promises an immersive and responsive driving experience.

The ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo project began in 2019 when the design team revisited the iconic Škoda 1100 OHC. Initially, the team was debating whether to restore the original 1100 OHC or create a futuristic iteration for the digital age. After consulting with Chief Designer Oliver Stefani, the Škoda Design team opted for an innovative approach, creating a fusion of past and future.

This racing concept pays homage to its legendary predecessor as well as incorporating the defining features of Škoda’s Modern Solid design language, as seen in its T-shaped headlights. What’s more, the Vision Gran Turismo showcases two distinct liveries: one reflecting the heritage of the famous Škoda 130 RS racing car from 70́s, and the other inspired by the Vision 7S concept car, which embodies Škodás Modern Solid Design philosophy.

The ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo boasts a sleek exterior with crisp, clear lines and pronounced edges, mirroring the aesthetics of current Formula E racers. Its design is optimized for superior handling through active aerodynamics. Features like the aerodynamically sculpted body, and the striking, adaptive two-piece rear wing, all work together to dynamically adjust to driving conditions and boost performance. The vehicle incorporates independent wishbone push-rod type suspension system, mounted to a carbon monocoque like those found in Formula E cars, improving high-speed stability, reducing body roll, and lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity.

Efficiency and excellent driving dynamics are at the heart of the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo design. It is equipped with two 200 kW (268.2 BHP) electric twin motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined power output of 800 kW (1,072 BHP). The inclusion of all-wheel drive with intelligent torque distribution across both axles ensures a balanced and responsive driving experience. This is complemented by a smooth, single-speed transmission, providing seamless acceleration.

The design of the ŠKODA Vision Gran Turismo harmonizes the exterior and interior, giving the driver the feeling of merging with the car ‒ especially once they take a seat in the cockpit of the cutting-edge carbon monocoque chassis.

AFEELA Prototype 2024

A revolutionary ‘mobility device’ set to change how we spend time moving.

“Move people, through the pursuit of innovation with diverse inspirations.” Embrace cutting edge technology and create a new kind of joy in movement to inspire others. This is the purpose for which Sony Honda Mobility was founded in 2022. This new company, born from the collaboration between 2 very different companies, unveiled their AFEELA Prototype 2024 BEV at the beginning of CES® 2024.

On the exterior, the car uses an orthodox hatchback sedan shape with a smooth aerodynamic look. There are several sensing devices across the car, including the LiDAR unit at the front of the roof and other image and radar sensors. The highly accurate data from these devices are used to provide more natural driving assistance.

The doors open automatically as the user approaches so there is no need for door handles. Looking towards the front grille, you will find the customizable ‘Media Bar’, a digital display which allows for both self-expression and communication from outside the car.

However, the real appeal of the AFEELA lies within its cabin. The interior features a vast array of features to ensure passengers are never bored.

The most obvious feature as you board the vehicle is the wide dashboard display spanning almost the entire width of the car. This screen provides not only information from the car itself, but several entertainment options which can also be shown on the seatback displays for the rear seats. As well as music and movies, passengers can also view a real-time 3D representation of the car’s surroundings taken from the sensor arrays and allows them to enjoy the scenery around them as if playing a game.

The appeal of the car is not only visual either. The AFEELA also features a personal agent feature which allows passengers to interact with the car through natural speech. Additionally, a combination of Honda’s extensive experience in mobility and Sony’s audio knowhow has resulted in an innovative noise cancelling system to reduce road noise. Isolated from the drone of the outside world, the interior’s numerous speakers provide an unparalleled audio soundstage.

The AFEELA transforms the process of moving around from simply waiting, to enjoying the time spent in the car. This 2024 Prototype is critical milestone in the process of bring the AFEELA to market production.

Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Sport Coupe ’70

Popular in drag racing; sporting incredible power from a massive engine.

Introduced in the 1964 model year, the Chevelle was Chevrolet’s first intermediate model. With an SS sports grade model in the line-up and an option for a 327ci high output V8 engine, the Chevelle carried all the hallmarks of a muscle car.

In the following year of 1965 however, the Chevelle SS was transformed into a full-blown high-performance car, with a 396 ci, OHV V8. From then on the Chevelle SS was only offered with this 396 ci unit, drawing a clear line between it and the previous SS.

In 1970, the Chevelle SS went on to be called the most powerful intermediate model on the market. The engine line-up that was only available in 396 ci was upgraded, offering an enlarged 402 ci model. In addition, a 454 ci, enlarged version of the 427 ci, was offered as well.

The option codes for the two types of 454 ci models offered, were the LS5 and LS6. The former produced 355 BHP with a compression of 10.25:1, and the compression of the latter was raised to 11.25:1, and combined with high cams and high flow headers, it produced approximately 449.7 BHP. This was the most powerful catalogue model engine in the history of American cars in its day.

The LS6-equipped Chevelle SS454 was immediately recognised as a very special model, with its wild power output unlikely for a road-legal car. Equipped with a straight exhaust and carburettor settings, it is said to have easily exceeded 493.1 BHP, and was the big contender in stock class drag racing.

We’re excited to announce details of the Gran Turismo World Series 2024. Gear up and get ready for another nail-biting season as we start a new format – The Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup will feature six rounds of Online Qualifiers each.* The best players will progress to four live rounds with spectators, culminating in the World Finals

Montreal, Prague and Tokyo announced as host destinations for the Gran Turismo World Series Rounds 1-3 with the venue for the World Finals to be announced.

Gran Turismo World Series 2024 begins with online qualifiers April 17

The Gran Turismo World Series 2024 gets underway on Wednesday, April 17. Any player who has a copy of Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 can enter the series by heading to the Sport mode in the game. Once there, sign up for the Nations Cup – racing to represent your home country or territory – and/or the Manufacturers Cup, racing for your favorite manufacturer.

First up from April 17 are the Online Qualifiers for the Nations Cup: six rounds played out over three weeks. From Wednesday, 8 May the action switches to the Manufacturers Cup, similarly with three weeks and six rounds of Online Qualifiers.

At the end of the Online Qualifiers, the top players will be selected to attend the live events. In a change to the format for 2024, three live Gran Turismo World Series Rounds will lead into the end-of-season World Finals.

The calendar for the Gran Turismo World Series 2024 live events is as follows:

  • Round 1 – Montreal, Canada | Saturday, 6 July
  • Round 2 – Prague, Czechia | Saturday, August 10
  • Round 3 – Tokyo, Japan | Saturday, September 28
  • World Finals – Date and location to be announced

Fans unable to attend the live events won’t miss any of the action, with each round set to be broadcast live on https://www.gran-turismo.com/world/live/ and https://www.youtube.com/@GRANTURISMOTV.

In the Nations Cup, the top 12 players (five from the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region; two each from the Central & South America, North America and Asia regions; and one from the Oceania region) will be invited to compete in all four live events. With the 2024 Nations Cup reverting to an individual competition, the 12 competitors will battle at all three Gran Turismo World Series Rounds and the World Finals. Points accumulated at each round will determine the overall 2024 World Champion.

The Manufacturers Cup remains a team competition, but with a new twist for 2024. World Series partners Toyota Gazoo Racing, Mazda and Genesis are guaranteed a starting spot at each live event. The other top manufacturers from the Online Qualifiers ranking will create a total field of 12. In the Gran Turismo World Series Rounds 1-3, each manufacturer will be represented by their top driver from the corresponding region to where the event is hosted – Americas in Montreal, EMEA in Prague and Asia-Oceania in Tokyo. For the World Finals, the three drivers per team will be united to compete together. Again, points will be cumulative to decide the World Champions.

The Gran Turismo World Series began in 2018, and 2024 is the seventh season of the ultra-competitive SIM racing championships. In 2023, a thrilling World Finals played out before a lively audience in Barcelona.

It was an unexpected, and first-ever, win for Team Nissan in the Manufacturers Cup with Ryota Kokubun (JPN), Mehdi Hafidi (FRA) and Mateo Estevez (ARG) taking home the trophy. Team Mercedes-AMG and Team Genesis completed the podium.

In the Nations Cup, Team Spain was dominant in front of their enthusiastic and very vocal home crowd. The experienced Coque López and Jose Serrano were joined in the team by exciting, young newcomer Pol Urra to record an impressive win ahead of Team Japan and Team Brazil.

Producer of the Gran Turismo series. “We were keen to increase the number of live events for 2024 and so I am excited about the new format we have. Deciding the competitors for all events at an early stage will give fans a real opportunity to get to know our talented drivers and follow them through the season. We shall be at some great venues and so are looking forward to more events with the same fantastic atmosphere we had in Barcelona last year and, of course, more excellent racing.”

Michelin, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), Genesis, Mazda, Brembo and Fanatec continue their support as official partners of the Gran Turismo World Series in 2024.

The Gran Turismo World Series is open to all players with any PS Plus membership for the online rounds through the ‘Sport’ mode in Gran Turismo 7. The Online Qualifiers are organized into a League format with three brackets determined by Driver Ratings, so that players compete in races against opponents of a similar level. Qualification for the live events is subject to terms and conditions which players can read and accept in game.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.44 brings 3 new cars, an extra Café Menu, 3 World Circuit Events, and more

3 new cars added this month

Audi R8 Coupé V10 plus ’16

(Can be purchased at Brand Central)

The 2nd generation of Audi’s road going sports car which shares the name of the Le Mans winning R8.

Originally a Le Mans Prototype race car, the name and technology from the ‘R8’ were carried over to create the R8 road car which debuted in 2006. The car was met with worldwide critical acclaim and a 2nd generation model was introduced in 2016. While this new model retains the key concepts behind the vehicle, it uses new versions of the lightweight Audi Space Frame made with lightweight materials, and their full-time 4WD ‘quattro’ system.

While aesthetically like its predecessor in many ways, almost all of its exterior details are completely different. Following on from the previous model, the powerplant is a 5.2L naturally aspirated V10. However, even the new base model R8 produces 532.5 BHP, which is a 14.8 BHP improvement over its predecessor. The new line-up also features the high-performance ‘R8 V10 Plus’ model which tunes the same engine up to 601.6 BHP and adds a fixed rear wing and mechanical LSD as standard.

Lamborghini Urus ’18

(Can be purchased at Brand Central)

Lamborghini’s answer to the global SUV boom.

Introduced in 2018 in response to the global SUV boom, the Urus is a “Super SUV” from renowned super sportscar manufacturer Lamborghini. Styled with sharp lines and an edgy design similar to mid-ship models of the same generation of Lamborghinis, the car is based on a specially tuned version of the platform used on other full-size SUVs from the Volkswagen Group. Mounted at the front is a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, the first ever forced induction engine ever in a Lamborghini, producing 641 BHP and 86.68 kgfm. The drivetrain is a a full-time 4WD system with 40:60 distribution front to rear as default, which can be adjusted from 70:30 to 13:87 according to the situation.

Additionally, the car features adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring to deliver the type of handling and cornering performance befitting a super SUV. It also features optional driving modes for off-road and desert driving. It’s ability to accelerate from 0-62.1 mph in 3.6 seconds, 0-124.3 mph in 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 189.5 mph made it truly worthy of its title as the world’s fastest SUV on its debut.

Toyota GT-One (TS020) ’99

(Can be purchased from Legend Cars)

The Toyota endurance race car that achieved a class win at Le Mans in 1999.

In the early 1990s, Toyota set out to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its Group C TS010 racing car. Several unsuccessful years followed, but the company would return for the 1998 season with the Toyota GT-One (TS020). During its Group C racing days, Toyota developed its race cars almost exclusively within Japan. However, they would revamp their plans and entrust this project to the group in charge of their World Rally Championship activities, German-based TTE (Toyota Team Europe), to claim overall victory once again in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The new Le Mans car, the GT-One, was designed by Andre De Cortanze, a racing car design genius with a brilliant track record in top motorsports races such as F1, Le Mans and WRC. De Cortanze designed the Peugeot 905B, the first Group C Peugeot car to claim victory at Le Mans in 1992 and 1993, and he incorporated the latest in F1 technology into the design of the GT-One Le Mans car. Its carbon-composite monocoque body was developed for aerodynamic performance, and it featured the same twin-turbocharged 3.6 L V8 developed during the company’s Group C days. The suspension had very long arms in both the front and rear, allowing for an ideal suspension geometry.

Gran Turismo 7’s 1.43 update features three new events, new cars, and Café Menu

3 new cars added this month

Audi TTS Coupé ’09

(Can be purchased at Brand Central or Used Car Dealership)

A high-performance model aggressively evolved from the TT.

The TTS is the high-performance version of the TT, which first debuted at the North American International Auto Show in January of 2008. The powertrain combines a 268.2 BHP @ 35.7 kgfm 2 L direct injection turbo engine with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission. Though it has the same displacement as the standard 2L turbo model, the TTS features a bespoke engine block, pistons, and connecting rods, and the turbocharger has been improved to increase performance. It produces 71 BHP more power and 7.2 kgfm more torque than the normal 2L turbo unit in models such as the 2.0 TFSI quattro. As a result, the 0-62.1 mph acceleration time is 5.2 seconds for the S-Tronic model, and 5.4 seconds for the 6-speed manual transmission.

Aside from the standard coupe body, a convertible ‘Roadster’ model was released in certain regions. On the mechanical side, the car is equipped with the ‘Audi Magnetic Ride’ variable dampers system as standard. When selecting the sports mode from the switch on the console, the ride height drops by 10 mm, allowing for more dynamic handling. This also provides a more aggressive ride befitting the TTS name.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR GSR ’06

(Can be purchased at Brand Central or Used Car Dealership)

The ‘9.5’, the final 4G63 powered Lancer Evolution.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR GSR is the 2006 update of the ‘Lan Evo’ IX GSR which debuted in 2005. On first glance, the car appears to be almost identical to the previous model, but numerous refinements have been made across the entire car. For example, while the maximum power and torque numbers of the 4G63 engine remain the same, the MIVEC variable valve timing system has been retuned, the standard specification turbine wheel has changed to a titanium-aluminium alloy, and the compressor inlet diameter has been downsized. Along with other minor improvements, this resulted in sharper engine response and faster acceleration. The suspension has also been upgraded, employing high spring rate Eibach coils combined with Bilstein dampers, and the electronically controlled ‘Super AYC’ 4WD system has been reprogrammed to focus on cornering ability.

There have also been refinements to the aerodynamics with the shape of the front bumper being changed to reduce lift. The ‘MR’ of the model name stands for ‘Mitsubishi Racing’. Throughout the company’s history, this designation has been given to the highest performance sports models. For the Lancer Evolution, MR models first appeared in the VIII line-up, making this IX the second MR model in the car’s history.

Renault R4 GTL ’85

(Can be purchased at Brand Central or Used Car Dealership)

The world’s first hatchback found great success through utilitarian design.

The Renault 4 (often called the ‘Quatre’ from its French name) is a compact car that debuted in 1961 to replace the best-selling Renault 4CV. Though its predecessor featured an ‘RR’ layout, which puts both the engine and drive wheels at the very rear of the vehicle, the Renault 4 featured a front-engine front-wheel drive (FF) configuration. The car would prove to be a massive success and served as the people’s car for many years to come. The car’s most notable design element is its packaging which formed the basis of the modern hatchback. The FF configuration allowed for a more spacious interior and the 4 also featured a large and lightly usable luggage space behind the back seats.

The mechanicals of the car are also unique. For example, although it features torsion bar suspension, which uses the elastic force of twisting a metal bar in place of a spring, it uses 2 different torsion bars in parallel for each of the rear wheels, which displaces them slightly and results in a different wheelbase on the left and right of the car. Additionally, as the transmission has been placed at the very front of the car, ahead of the engine, gear changes are operated by a long rod which reaches over the engine and protrudes into the cabin. The driver changes gears by pushing and pulling the rod in and out of the dashboard.

Café / Extra Menus

The following Menu has been added:

  • Extra Menu No. 36: Lamborghini (Collector Level 43 and above)

World Circuits (Event)

The following new events have been added to World Circuits:

  • European Clubman Cup 600 – Tsukuba Circuit

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.42 arrives today with new cars and Café Menus

Three new cars

BVLGARI Aluminum Vision Gran Turismo

A digital concept car infused with the DNA of BVLGARI.

*Can be purchased in Brand Central from end of February

The BVLGARI Aluminum Vision Gran Turismo is a digital concept car inspired by the iconic BVLGARI Aluminum watch from 1998 and shares the same spirit: sporty, smart and essential, yet precise and quality crafted. The shapes, materials, colours, and overall design language of the car are directly inspired by the form language and spirit of the aluminum watch.

The barchetta body style is an archetype of sportiness which expresses dynamic movement, lightness, and performance. The body design is an essential combination of pure and geometrical shapes, which are symbolic of Italian car design traditions of creativity and character, integrating some original references to the glorious era of ’60s and ’70s concept cars from Italian Carrozzeria. The result is a timeless design that is undeniably Italian in its innovative conceptual spirit and its expression of style and coolness, transcending all the temporary fashions and short-term trends, to affirm itself as a pure expression of BVLGARI design DNA.

Complimentary offer for owners of the BVLGARI Aluminum Gran Turismo Limited Models.

Those who purchase the BVLGARI Aluminum Gran Turismo Limited Model chronograph watch and register via the QR code will receive this car at no additional cost along with early access ahead of the official February release (to be distributed as a Car Ticket each month beginning late January). Take this opportunity to experience BVLGARI’s revolutionary digital concept car alongside this Vision Gran Turismo 10th anniversary commemorative chronograph watch.

Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept

A sports coupe that embodies the athletic elegance sought out by Genesis.

*Can be purchased in Brand Central

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept emotionally applies Genesis’ Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The design orchestrates the cab’s backward proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory common to the entire Genesis model line-up.

The X Gran Berlinetta Concept design language is pure and muscular with the volumes centered around the wheels. It sports Genesis’ new front fascia that abstracts the crest grille and links it with the quad lights, structuring and connecting the volumes from front to rear with the two-line brand identifier. The fuselage extrudes itself towards the rear in an elliptical concave volume that can be found on other Genesis vehicles. It is framed by a rear spoiler and lateral trailing edges for aerodynamic high-speed stability.

The interior derives Genesis’ Beauty of White Space attitude by creating a purist environment for the pilot. The essential functions are prioritized to maximize track performance focus. The digital panoramic interface serves as information center linked to the surround digital monitoring system, while the steer-by-wire grip commands allow precise maneuvering. The quilted, padded bolsters protect the pilot while racing and during the speedy entrance and egress on pit stops. The X Gran Berlinetta Concept features an impressive aerodynamic fluidity.

The designers have achieved a drag coefficient of 0.34 by integrating aerodynamic aids and orchestrating internal and laminar flows. The X Gran Berlinetta Concept is powered by a front mid-mounted Lambda II V6 engine, electrically assisted by Genesis E-SC technology. The hybrid race-spec drivetrain delivers a total of 1,071 HP (1,071 BHP) 986 ft-lb (136.3 kgfm) of torque, ensuring that this car is as powerful as it is beautiful. The V6 screams at 10,000 rpm while delivering a maximum output of 870 HP (870 BHP) and 790 ft-lb (109.2 kgfm) while the Yasa E motor generates an additional 201 HP (201 BHP) 196 ft-lb (27 kgfm).

Suzuki Jimny XC ’18

Amazing all-terrain ability beyond its size. Japan’s mighty micro off-roader.

*Can be purchased in Brand Central

The Jimny is a cross-country style 4WD model that has been produced by Suzuki since 1970. While there have been variants in each generation that crossed over into the compact car class, the mainstay of the series is the ‘kei’ model. The series has continued to develop over the years with a 2nd generation model introduced in 1981, the 3rd generation introduced in 1998 and the 4th generation in 2018.

What has remained constant across the entire series though is its construction, which uses a ‘kei’ size body shell fitted to a ladder frame chassis with rigid axle suspension and oversized tires. The drivetrain used has always been a part-time four-wheel drive layout, though rear-wheel drive only models have appeared as well. The all-terrain ability that this thoroughbred offroad setup affords has earned it praise not only within its native Japan but across the globe as well. It has found a home as a commercial vehicle in areas with extreme snow and mountainous conditions, become a popular choice for outdoor leisure enthusiasts and even become a base car for off-road motorsports.

The main features of the 4th generation Jimny introduced in 2018, are its overtly square body and its round headlamps which take the design back to its roots. Additionally, its stability and ride comfort at high speeds, a common weakness of primarily off-road vehicles, have been greatly improved. Also, the 660 cc turbo engine has been specially tuned for the Jimny, and the classic part-time four-wheel drive system has been returned to a mechanical transfer case. To reduce wheel spin, the car comes with electronically controlled brake LSD traction control as standard. The most popular model in the line-up is the luxury XC grade which comes with a wide variety of extra features such as cruise control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

Café / Extra Menus

The following two Extra Menus have been added:

  • Extra Menu No. 34: ‘Nissan Motorsports‘ (Collector Level 46 and above)
  • Extra Menu No. 35: ‘Dodge’(Collector Level 32 and above)

  • Jimny Cup Sardegna – Windmills / Willow Springs International Raceway / Lake Louise
  • Vision Gran Turismo Trophy Tokyo Expressway / Autodromo Nazionale Monza

A live public audience will witness all the action in the denouements of the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup on Friday, December 1, Manufacturers Cup on Saturday, December 2 and Nations Cup on Sunday, December 3.

The Gran Turismo World Series 2023 concludes in Barcelona starting Dec 1

The World Finals will celebrate 10 years of Vision Gran Turismo with eight full-scale models on display in the venue and the live unveiling of two exciting new Vision Gran Turismo cars.

An image showing a world map, marking the local times for the GT World Series World Finals 2023 Barcelona broadcast schedule, running across Friday, 1 December for the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup 2023 Grand Final, Saturday, 2 December for the Manufacturers Cup and Sunday, 3 December for the Nations Cup. Los Angeles Fri-Sat is 10am PT, Sun at 7am PT. London Fri-Sat is 6pm GMT, Sun 3pm GMT, Tokyo Fri-Sat 3am (+ 1 day) and Sun midnight (+ 1 day)

All the action will be streamed live on Gran Turismo YouTube and PlayStation Twitch as well as Eurosport and Discovery+

Following the stunning Gran Turismo World Series Showdown that took place in Amsterdam in August, the top GT racers from around the world are back in action for the World Finals. Sixty-five competitors from 20 countries will travel to Barcelona in Northern Spain for three days of competition.

Three days of top-class racing

The action takes place at the Fira de Barcelona, close to the historic Montjuic F1 circuit and Barcelona’s Olympic Park, in the centre of Catalunya’s vibrant capital. It starts with 24 drivers competing in two Semi-finals, a last-chance Repechage and the 12-way Grand Final to decide the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup winner on Friday, December 1 from 10:00am PT / 7:00pm BST.

The competitive field features many established Gran Turismo World Series racers, but the TGR GT Cup always introduces some new talent into the fray, such as fast American Calen Roach who has just turned 18 and so is eligible to compete for the first time. With five Spanish drivers in the mix, there will be plenty for the home crowd to cheer for. The popular Coque López will be keen to make a winning start to the biggest weekend on the Gran Turismo calendar, but he’ll face stiff opposition in this ultra-competitive series.

On Saturday, December 2, the action turns to the Manufacturers Cup where 36 competitors will represent the leading Gran Turismo manufacturers, including Series partners Toyota, Mazda and Genesis. A qualifying sprint race will be followed by a Grand Final that features all three drivers racing around the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Reigning World Champions Team Subaru were relegated to second place by Team Porsche in the World Series Showdown in Amsterdam. They will be keen to seek revenge, while Team Porsche will be buoyed by the return of their talisman, Chilean Angel Inostroza, who was forced to miss the Amsterdam event while recovering from injuries.

Team Lamborghini put in a highly impressive and entertaining run at the Showdown event to take the final podium place but will be under pressure from 2022 podium finishers Team Toyota and Team Mercedes AMG as they aim for the top step and their chance to win the Boccioni-inspired trophy.

Sunday, December 3 sees national pride at stake as 12 teams of three battle for the Nations Cup over three individual sprint races and a 3-driver endurance race. Team Spain is on a roll and will surely be the favourites for a win on home soil in front of a partisan crowd. Coque López took the Nations Cup title for Spain in 2022, when the Nations Cup was an individual competition. Teamed up with Jose Serrano and Pol Urra at the Amsterdam Showdown event in August, the trio were unstoppable and took a stunning victory.

Team France, Team Brazil, Team Japan, Team Chile and Team Italy all have the raw talent, speed and race craft to beat them on their day and it will be fascinating to see if the home crowd can make the difference for the Spanish threesome and push them all the way to the top step of the podium.

Celebrating 10 years of Vision Gran Turismo

As well as the on-track action, the World Finals 2023 will also celebrate 10 years of the innovative Vision Gran Turismo project. Embraced by the automotive industry, more than 30 Vision Gran Turismo cars have been designed and released in Gran Turismo games, in many cases giving a glimpse into the future of the automotive industry.

Eight full-scale models of Vision Gran Turismo cars will be on display at the World Finals venue, but most exciting of all will be two new Vision Gran Turismo cars set to be unveiled live during the Manufacturers Cup broadcast on Saturday and the Nations Cup on Sunday.

In addition to the Vision Gran Turismo cars, the in-venue experience for spectators will be enhanced by Gran Turismo World Series partners. Toyota will display some of their flagship GR models, Michelin will have a booth and offer a chance to win prizes and Fanatec will showcase its latest products, as will Brembo and BBS.

Watch and win in Gran Turismo 7

Following the release of the Spec II Update earlier in November, Gran Turismo 7 players can benefit from two special in-game bonus campaigns during the World Finals 2023.

The Predict the Winners Campaign by Brembo is open until the start of each race broadcast. Players can win in-game Credits by correctly predicting the winners of the three championships. 1,000,000 Credits will be delivered for a correct guess, with a total of 3,000,000 Credits being delivered for correctly guessing the winners of all three.

The Viewers Gift Campaign by BBS starts from the start of each race broadcast and lasts until Sunday, 10 December. Players can receive the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo, Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo and the brand-new Vision Gran Turismo model due to be unveiled during the weekend by clicking the Viewers Campaign banner in the top right corner of the Gran Turismo 7 World Map and watching the streams.

World Final Celebration Race

Be part of the action as you can experience the same races as the Gran Turismo World Finals 2023 in Gran Turismo 7.

The Gran Turismo World Series Anniversary Race is open from November 17 to December 10 and can be accessed from the World Map screen. Players can race in either the Manufacturers Cup race at the Nürburgring 24h or Nations Cup race at Spa 24h layout.

Gran Turismo 7 update with SPEC II 1.40 arrives today – new cars, track, and features

7 new cars being added this month

Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi ‘68
A true 60s muscle car, the envy of collectors everywhere.
(Can be purchased from Legends Cars)

Released by Chrysler in 1966, the Dodge Charger is one of the most representative models of the muscle car boom that swept the American car scene in the 1960s. While many other muscle cars were based on compact class platforms, the Dodge Charger was based on the larger intermediate class platform of the Dodge Coronet. The car is easily recognized by its elongated 2-door fastback silhouette. It was also popular for its power, as the car was fitted with a large displacement V8 engine across all model grades. The Charger received a minor facelift in 1968.

One of the most exciting implementations in this update was the introduction of the ‘R/T’ (Road/Track) performance package. As standard, this package increased the sports performance of the chassis, including upgraded suspension and upgraded brakes, as well as the option to upgrade the engine to the 426 Hemi unit.

Dodge Charger SRT Demon ‘18
A demon born simply to run the quarter mile as fast as possible.
(Can be purchased in Brand Central)

The 3rd generation Dodge Challenger was introduced in 2008 as the true successor to the masterpiece muscle car that was the original Challenger. The car is well known for the various performance models that have been released since its debut, but in 2015 the veil was lifted on the most powerful model yet, the SRT Hellcat. However, the star of the line-up had yet to appear. That was the SRT Demon, produced in a limited run of 3,300 units in 2018. This car is a monster built for the single purpose of winning drag races.

The engine, based on the Hellcat model, has been tuned to produce 813.6 BHP on 100 or higher-octane fuel. Subsequently the car can achieve such astounding figures as a 0-62 mph time of 2.3s and a quarter mile time of just 9.65s. The body is also a full drag strip setup with no passenger or rear seats included as standard, though they are available as an option. Even more surprising is the ‘Demon Crate’, a racing parts kit that Dodge sold to buyers for just one dollar extra. The equipment, said to be valued at over six thousand dollars, included thinner front wheels and a high-octane tuned ECU for drag racing as well as an air filters and a race spec instrument panel.

Lexus LFA ‘10
An ultra high-tech sportscar that achieved ultimate performance with mass-production quality.
(Can be purchased in Brand Central)

20 years before Japan’s automotive industry was truly recognized by the world, Toyota created a sports car called the 2000GT which combined the latest technology of the 1960s. In the 21st century, Lexus would create another cutting-edge sports car that would continue that legacy; the LFA. Its development was not easy. The aim was to provide stable and consistent quality while incorporating emerging technologies such as carbon fiber body production. For Toyota, it was not enough to make components match and fit together manually; it was a matter of pride as a mass-production vehicle manufacturer to balance cutting-edge technology with consistent product quality.

One of the most important factors of a sports car, the front-to-rear weight distribution ratio, is 48 to 52. To achieve this figure, they implemented a transaxle layout and mounted the radiator in the rear. The vehicle weight was reduced to 1,480 kg. Emphasis was also put on lowering the center of gravity, utilizing a dry-sump lubrication system so that the powertrain itself could be mounted lower. The 4.8 L V10 has a bank angle of 72 degrees with a factory redline of 9,500 rpm. The 552.3 BHP total power equates to 115.4 BHP per liter, but even with this performance level the car is still relatively environmentally friendly. The transmission utilizes a 6-speed single clutch 2-pedal manual transmission, able to shift in just 0.2 seconds, a figure on par with the world’s top racing machines.

Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II ‘91
Born from touring racing, the ultimate evolution of the 190 E.
(Can be purchased from Legend Cars)

In the early 1980s, Mercedes-Benz decided to return to motorsports after a long absence. The car they developed was the 190 E 2.3-16, a sports model based on the compact 190 series. It was unveiled in 1983. The biggest highlight of the 2.3-16 was its engine, based on a 2.3 L SOHC inline-4 that Mercedes already had in production. A 16-valve DOHC head was added, and the engine was tuned by Cosworth, a company famous for F1 engines. The resulting powerplant boasted 182.4 BHP maximum output and 23.1 kgfm maximum torque. The 190 E 2.3-16 with this engine began racing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) in 1986, where it fell victim to a race car’s fate of endless evolutions. By 1988 the car had evolved into the 190 E 2.5-16, given a bigger engine in hopes of defeating its arch-rival the BMW M3. With displacement enlarged to 2.5 L, the engine could now make up to 197.2 BHP. A DTM homologation model, known as the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution, began limited production in 1989.

Then, in 1990, Mercedes released its ultimate 2.5-16: the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. On looks alone, the Evolution II amazed all who saw it. Large wheel arch extensions had been added at the front and rear to accommodate the wide 245/40ZR17 tires, and the boot now sported a giant spoiler so big it hung over the rear end. The engine was further tuned, boosting output up to 231.8 BHP (power was said to exceed 325.4 BHP in the DTM racing version.) A mere 500 of these Evolution IIs were produced during its limited run, but it took the DTM by storm in 1992, showing its stuff against tough rivals and proving that it truly was the ultimate 190 E, forged in the fires of touring car racing.

NISMO 400R ‘95
Boasting 400ps and an extremely limited production run, the ultimate R33 GT-R from NISMO.
(Can be purchased from Legend Cars)

Launching in 1996 with a maximum output of 394.5 BHP and an eye-watering 12-million-yen price tag during a time when passenger cars were traditionally limited to 276.1 BHP in Japan and new R33 Skyline GT-Rs sold for roughly 4-million yen, the 400R was a fully tuned model that astonished fans by these two figures. Utilizing all NISMO’s expertise with the R33 GT-R, it was developed with the aim of producing the fastest possible GT-R that could still be driven on the road. The 400R is equipped with a power unit based on a version of the RB26DETT engine called the RBX-GT2 and paired with N1-spec turbochargers to increase boost.

To achieve the characteristics of a road-approved vehicle, maximum output was kept to a relatively moderate level considering the engine’s potential. However, using specially developed pistons and a hardier crankshaft, engine displacement was expanded to 2.8L, enabling it to achieve high torque at low rpms and making it easier to handle than the regular engine. At the same time, the engine delivers a mighty amount of power at high revs and so required the need for twin-plate clutch units to be fitted. A lightweight propeller shaft made from carbon fiber was also added along with a fully original suspension kit with Bilstein dampers, front and rear stabilizers, and reinforced bushings.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) ‘22
A hyper performance streetcar packed with racing car features.
(Can be purchased in Brand Central)

Released in the summer of 2022, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) is a hyper performance streetcar that brings the aerodynamics of the 911 GT3 R, a true race car, to the 992 model. Visually, the car has much more in common with racing cars than even its predecessor, the 991.2 model GT3 RS. The most obvious feature is the swan neck mounted rear wing, the largest ever on a production Porsche model. It features an F1 style DRS (drag reduction system) which under certain conditions allow the wing to be positioned flat at the touch of a button, reducing drag, and enabling the car to reach its top speed. Additionally, when hard braking from high speeds, the front adjustable active diffuser can act as an air brake to increase braking performance.

Along with those above, additional improvements to aerodynamic devices such as the front aerobars and air outlets on the front and rear fenders all result in a car that produces more than twice the downforce of the previous 991.2 GT3 RS. There are also other features taken from race cars such as the 911 GT3 R and RSR, like the front hood space which would normally serve as the luggage space but has been replaced with a front radiator. This is one of the key features of the 992 model GT3 RS.

Tesla Model 3 Performance ‘23
The bestseller from the company that changed the EV market forever.
(Can be purchased in Brand Central)

The Tesla Model 3 is a sedan EV first introduced in 2016. One of the most compact Tesla models at 4,695 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,445 mm tall, it was apparently designed with considerations for Japanese mechanical parking garages. Inside the sporty 5-door hatchback style body is a surprisingly simple cabin space. There are almost no switches on the dashboard or center console, with almost all functions of the car from the climate control to the “autopilot” system being controlled from a 15-inch touch screen. Many of these functions are also controllable via the Tesla smartphone app.

The most powerful model in the line-up is the Performance Dual Motor AWD grade which was available from its debut until 2023. This all-wheel drive system places an electric motor on each of the front and rear axles and while the total system output has not been officially published, it has a 0-62.1 mph time of 3.3s and a top speed of 162.2 mph. Based on these figures and its market price, the Model 3 is almost unrivalled in its cost to performance ratio.

Garage RCR Civic

A time attack Civic customized in the classic JDM style.

The overwhelming popularity of Japanese performance cars on the international circuit lead to the creation of the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) category. This Honda Civic is one such JDM styled custom car to win the Gran Turismo Award in 2017, an award which is given to the very best custom cars on show at SEMA. In 2006, owner Philip Robles purchased an almost stock condition 1992 model EG Civic and began work on gradually customizing it with his son Jesse. Their aim was to compete in regional Time Attack and Time Trial classes on circuits in the Southwest. There was a 10-year span of continuous track weekends that resulted in several Time Trial and Time Attack championships. In 2017, Philip was asked to display the Civic at the SEMA booth of Mackin Industries, an importer of tuning parts in the USA. This prompted the car to be further customized and refreshed for the show. The most obvious modification to the car is the wide body kit from Japanese aero brand Pandem along with a front splitter and rear wing. Another notable feature is the bold design of the carbon fiber hood which was based on a design by Japanese tuner– J’s Racing. The interior has been stripped bare and reinforced with a roll cage, leaving only a single bucket seat. The original engine has been swapped out for a Honda K24 inline-4 unit. When this car appeared at the 2017 SEMA show the engine was naturally aspirated, but it later underwent an extensive tuning process, adding a turbocharger and greatly increasing the engine power. The transmission is a 5-speed sequential gearbox made by Quaife for K-series engines.

Honda Civic Type R ’22

Driving feel comes first. The legendary R badge returns for the 11th gen. Civic.

The sixth version of the Civic Type R was introduced 1 year and 3 months after the world premiere of its base model, the 11th generation FL model Civic which was introduced as the Sokai (meaning exhilarating) Civic. The Type R is based on the 5-door hatchback configuration. Compared to previous standard models, the FL has done away with the flashy tuning car stylings. While it retains the essential elements of a sports model, such front and rear aero parts and widened fenders, it has adopted a more simple, refined design. The power unit is the definitive modern Type R engine, a 2L inline-4 turbocharged K20C unit, which after an overhaul of its turbo system and other improvements now produces 9.9 BHP and 2.04 kgfm more than the previous model for a maximum output of 325.4 BHP and 42.83 kgfm torque. The engine ECU map has also been meticulously tuned to improve throttle response and low-end torque. The suspension uses an evolution of the same 4-wheel independent Adaptive Damper System first introduced in the 2015 FK2 model Civic Type R. On the FL5 model, the system controls not only pitch and roll, but also introduces considerations for the vertical acceleration of unsprung components. Through this system, Honda aims to offer the same direct handling.

MAZDA3 Gr.4

Exploring the potential of internal combustion, a next-generation bio-diesel powered race car.

The MAZDA3 Bio concept is a next-generation bio-diesel fuelled racing car that was created and developed for real world testing in the 2023 Super Taikyu endurance racing series. The car is essentially the successor to Mazda’s Demio/MAZDA2 Bio concept which had been running since 2021 with the aim of achieving a true balance of carbon neutrality and joy in driving. Both cars were entered in the ST-Q class which is almost exclusively reserved for manufacturer development models. What has changed for this model is the car now uses Susteo provided by Euglena, a 100% next-generation bio-diesel made from used cooking oil. The 2.2L SkyActiv-D engine can produce 45.89 kgfm torque and roughly 236.7 BHP~256.4 BHP using this fuel which is molecularly identical to commercially available diesel fuel. The car itself of course has also been modified. To reduce weight, areas such as the engine hood and roof employ hybrid materials which employ a mix of CFRP and natural fibers. Also, to improve aerodynamic performance, the front and rear fenders have been widened and new aero parts like the front spoiler, rear wing and side skirts have been fitted.

Two Extra Menus

  • Extra Menu No. 29: Porsche Supercars (Collector Level 42 and above)
  •  Extra Menu No. 30: GR (Collector Level 39 and above)

Scapes

29 additional Spots have been added to the Nissan section in Brand Central.
